Add as a preferred source on Google CM Punk says his health, rather than the length of a contract or a specific number of matches, will determine when he retires from professional wrestling.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio during Monday’s launch of WWE Radio, Punk was asked how often he thinks about his legacy. The 47-year-old acknowledged that he is closer to the end of his career but has not established a retirement timeline.
“I do, but not much. It’s a fleeting moment, you know? Just because I know I’m much closer to the end than I am the beginning. Where that end is? Nobody knows. I don’t even know. It’s not measured in the length of a contract. It’s not measured in matches. To me, it’s honestly — it’s measured in health. It’s how I look and it’s more importantly how I feel. And right now, I’ve never felt better.
I’m double-timing my recovery on things, which is something I’ve never been really great at. And the business now allows you to fit all that in. So I’m just going to go until the wheels fall off. We’ll see what happens.”
Punk’s emphasis on health comes after a torn triceps suffered during the 2024 Royal Rumble forced him to miss WrestleMania XL.
Earlier this year, Punk also told GQ that he still saw plenty of stories left to tell. He said being 47 gives him another way to approach storytelling and argued that he can now do things he could not have done earlier in his career.
Punk enters SummerSlam as Undisputed WWE Champion and will defend the title against Cody Rhodes on Saturday, August 1. The match will be their first one-on-one meeting in nearly 18 years.
