CM Punk praised Grayson Waller after Waller opened the July 28 episode of WWE NXT with a lengthy promo aimed at the roster. The segment marked Waller’s return to NXT after a long absence.
In an Instagram Story, Punk shared a clip from the segment and wrote:
“FRUSTRATION DISTILLED AND FUNNELLED INTO A BULLET AIMED AT THE COMPETITION.”
During the promo, Waller said the past few years of his career had been wasted. He criticized former tag team partner Austin Theory. Waller also took aim at the period he spent working with The New Day. Other targets included Cruz Montana, formerly known as Mike Santana, NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo, and Shawn Michaels.
Waller also called the men on the NXT roster soft, lazy, and complacent while saying the women’s division was far ahead of them.
Waller last appeared on Raw on April 27, when Oba Femi beat him in short order. He later appeared on WWE Main Event before returning to NXT.
Punk and Waller have not been linked on television, but Punk’s public praise suggests WWE may have bigger plans for Waller moving forward.
