Andrade El Ídolo’s return to CMLL has a date. This week’s edition of CMLL Informa confirmed that the reigning AEW National Champion will be back for the promotion’s 93rd Anniversary show on September 18, 2026, at Arena México, where he’ll face Volador Jr.
The match revives one of Andrade’s biggest rivalries from his days in Mexico. Wrestling as La Sombra at the time, he defeated Volador Jr. in a Mask vs. Mask Match at CMLL’s 80th Anniversary in 2013, taking the mask of his former partner.
Their most recent singles encounter came on December 29, 2023, also at Arena México. Volador Jr. won that night’s main event, capping Andrade’s brief CMLL stint before he returned to WWE.

2:29 AM · Aug 13, 2026Although Andrade hasn’t worked a CMLL show since, he was recently back inside Arena México. At AEW Grand Slam Mexico on August 5, 2026, he defeated Tommaso Ciampa and Komander to earn the number-one entry in the Casino Gauntlet Match at AEW All In.
CMLL also made a significant change to the rest of the Anniversary card. Místico and Averno have been added as one of four teams in the Lucha de Apuestas elimination match, joining Templario and Último Guerrero, Dragón Rojo Jr. and Bárbaro Cavernario, and Zandokan Jr. and Star Jr. Whichever team wins will then have to face each other immediately in a stakes match.
If Místico and Averno advance, the previously announced Mask vs. Hair Match between them will finally happen. Their rivalry stretches back more than two decades and picked up steam again after Averno was involved in the attack that left Místico injured in July.
