Cody Rhodes made some interesting comments about the legacy that John Cena left after having his last match for WWE in 2025.

In an interview on Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant, Rhodes commented on Cena’s decision not to choose a single successor, but rather several throughout his farewell.

“I think John probably will go down because he spent an entire year doing the honors. He didn’t just pick one.”

“Yeah, he took a bet on a few, you know. He definitely did more than just doing the favor. He did the honors, and that’s the way you want to do it.”

Rhodes’ comments make total sense if one goes back in time. For example, in August 2025, Rhodes beat Cena and regained the Undisputed WWE Championship. Months later, Gunther defeated the “Cenation” by submission at Saturday Night’s Main Event, giving the spotlight to another name. Dominik Mysterio also played an important role in the final stretch of Cena’s career.

Rhodes also commented on how he believes there is a big responsibility for veterans in relation to helping those who are starting out.

“Oh man, I mean, you mentioned Triple H. Triple H is a great example.”

Finally, Rhodes made it clear that he understands that there is a certain selfishness in giving up a position that one has fought so long to get, despite believing that one needs to get past that barrier.
