Cody Rhodes doesn’t believe he needs a change in approach in WWE, a point he made clear during Friday’s interview with Michael Cole on SmackDown, live from Corpus Christi, Texas.
The comment came after Rhodes was asked about his posture toward Randy Orton. At the September 6 Sunday Night’s Main Event, Cody had a chance to hit Orton with a Punt Kick but hesitated. The Viper made him pay, catching him with a low blow before finishing him off with the RKO for the win.
Rhodes had this to say:
“People are always talking about my morals. About whether I’m going to take a dark path. Do you know something I don’t? This man who returned at WrestleMania 38, I know who I am. That’s how I’ve won the Royal Rumble twice, world championships… and at WrestleMania I beat Randy Orton. I don’t need change.”
Rhodes’ words were also a direct response to Orton, who last week called him a “good man” on SmackDown. Orton said Rhodes still lacks the “killer instinct” he plans to use in his pursuit of a 15th world title.
Rhodes beat Orton at WrestleMania 42 in April to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship, only for Orton to attack him with a Punt Kick after the bell.
Orton also tried to punch his ticket into the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match on tonight’s SmackDown, but Trick Williams won the qualifying match, which also featured Rey Fénix.
