Cody Rhodes did not have to think too hard when revealing what he considers the biggest moment of his pro-wrestling career.

During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, the Undisputed WWE Champion said his win at WrestleMania 40, when he finally captured WWE’s top title, remains the defining moment of his career.

“That should be an easier answer, but it has to likely be WrestleMania 40. Capturing the WWE Championship is probably the most real story I could possibly tell in sports entertainment and pro wrestling that blends fact and fiction, because it was the title my dad never won and was so close to winning. I really thought it was out of my hands by the time I’d come back to WWE, to be able to hold it up and hand it to my mom. It’s also lingering today because everyone who put me on their shoulders in the ring and celebrated — almost all of them have turned on me at this point. So all of modern WWE spins out of WrestleMania 40, and that has to be the best moment of my career.”

At WrestleMania 40, Cody defeated Roman Reigns in the main event of Night Two, ending The Tribal Chief’s historic title reign and finally “finishing the story” in front of the Philadelphia crowd.

The detail Rhodes referenced is that Dusty Rhodes did briefly hold the old WWWF Championship in 1977 at Madison Square Garden, but he was never recognized as champion because he defeated Billy Graham by count-out.

Rhodes is now headed toward another major Undisputed WWE Championship defense. He will face GUNTHER at Clash in Italy on Sunday, May 31.
