Danhausen’s famous curse appears to have claimed another victim. This time, Argentina lost the 2026 World Cup title just hours after landing in the WWE wrestler’s crosshairs.
On the eve of the final, a fan asked Danhausen which national team would be cursed. Without hesitation, he answered: “Argentina.”
Argentina took the field this past Sunday, July 19, at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, but fell to Spain, 1-0, in extra time. Ferran Torres scored the match’s only goal in the 106th minute, ending Lionel Messi’s bid for a second consecutive title.

Spain lifted the World Cup for the second time in its history and closed out the tournament having allowed just one goal across eight matches. The team also extended its unbeaten run to 38 games.
This wasn’t the first time Danhausen has taken his character into other sports. During the NBA playoffs, he lifted a curse he had placed on the New York Knicks and started cursing the team’s opponents instead. The Knicks went on to finish the season with their first championship in 53 years.
The curses are also part of Danhausen’s current WWE storyline. In recent months, he has caused trouble for Liv Morgan and The Judgment Day, with WWE even presenting him as one of the people responsible for the Women’s World Champion’s loss at Night of Champions.
