Add as a preferred source on Google Liv Morgan is about to reach a new level outside the ring. Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, the film that features the current Women’s World Champion in its cast, will hold its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The film was included in the Special Presentations category of the 51st edition of TIFF, scheduled for September 10-20 in Toronto, Canada. The date and time of the screening have not yet been announced by the festival.
Directed by Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike, known for films such as Audition and Ichi the Killer, the film stars Shun Oguri and Lily James in the lead roles.
In the story, Oguri plays a corrupt, gambling-addicted cop drawn into the investigation into the disappearance of a politician’s daughter, played by Morgan. James plays an FBI agent sent to Japan, while an assassin tied to the Yakuza underworld tracks the investigators.
Morgan filmed her scenes in Japan in May 2025, a stretch during which she was temporarily away from WWE programming. In March of this year, she revealed that the film would hit theaters in September and said fans would see a completely different side of her personality.
This role represents the most important film work of Morgan’s career to date. She has previously appeared in the Chucky series and the film The Kill Room.
Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo will be the third feature film tied to the franchise that began with the controversial 1992 Bad Lieutenant, starring Harvey Keitel. A new version, directed by Werner Herzog and starring Nicolas Cage, was released in 2009.
Neon will handle the film’s distribution in North America.
Before she begins promoting the film, Morgan will continue defending the Women’s World Championship in WWE, with IYO SKY already confirmed as her challenger at SummerSlam.
