Dax Harwood believes AEW’s tag team division is stronger now than at any point since he and Cash Wheeler joined the company in 2020.
Harwood, one half of FTR, pointed to the number of top-tier teams currently on the roster in a recent interview with SB Nation. He said it is “almost undeniable” that AEW is the home for tag team wrestling.
“It’s more exciting in AEW now than it’s ever been in our whole time here, and that’s the honest-to-God truth,” Harwood said. “We’ve got some young Teams like the Gunn Club, Austin and Colton, we’ve got young teams like the Rascalz that are coming in and trying to take over the spot from FTR.
“On top of that, you also have some of the greatest tag teams of all time. Obviously FTR, The Young Bucks, and Cope and Cage, but now with the Austin Creed and, and Kofi, you’ve got The New Level, one of the greatest tag teams of all time. You’ve got Motor City Machine Guns, another set of guys who can lay claim as the greatest tag team of all time.
“So if you got five of the top tag teams in the last 30 years in one company under one roof, with some of the greatest young talent in the world, I think it’s almost undeniable to say that AEW is the home for tag team wrestling.”
Harwood’s comments come a few weeks after All In: London, where Adam Copeland and Christian Cage retained the AEW World Tag Team Championship against the Young Bucks. The Motor City Machine Guns, FTR and The New Level then made their way to the ring, a scene that put the full strength of AEW’s tag team division on display.
The New Level, made up of Austin Creed and Kofi, debuted that same night and won the AEW World Trios Championship alongside Swerve Strickland. Since then, the trio has defended the titles against The Rascalz and The Demand.
Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin have also made their official debut as a team in AEW. The Motor City Machine Guns defeated The Swirl on the September 5 episode of Collision in their first tag team match for the company.
FTR will get another chance to win back the AEW World Tag Team Championship on Saturday at All Out. Harwood and Wheeler will face Copeland and Cage, along with the Young Bucks, in a three-way ladder match.
