Fraxiom and the team of Mini Vikingo and Chazz Hall advanced in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic on the September 29 episode of WWE NXT.
In the night’s first tournament match, AAA‘s Mini Vikingo and WWE Evolve’s Chazz Hall defeated BirthRight’s Uriah Connors and Stacks Lorenzo. Lorenzo and Connors kept Hall isolated for an extended period until Vikingo got the tag and began dictating the pace. In the closing stretch, Vikingo hit Lorenzo with a 630 senton for the pinfall.
BirthRight attacked the winners after the match, but Zilla Fatu came out to make the save.
Fraxiom also won by pinfall later in the night, defeating DarkState’s Cutler James and Osiris Griffin. Axiom spent much of the match isolated until Nathan Frazer tagged in and the momentum swung. The finish came when Axiom hit a Spanish Fly and Frazer followed with a Phoenix Splash.
Hall and Vikingo will next face NXT Tag Team Champions Ricky Smokes and Brad Baylor of the Vanity Project, who had a first-round bye. Fraxiom will meet Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno, who advanced last week with a win over Los Americanos.
The match was Mini Vikingo’s NXT debut. Backstage, Robert Stone explained that he and AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio wanted a team to represent WWE Evolve and AAA in the tournament, and that Vikingo and Hall were that team.
The tournament continues next Tuesday, October 6, with Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux taking on Kento and Takuma of the Tokyo Bad Boys, and WWE Evolve’s Shido Ash and Viktor Zanov facing Hank and Tank. The winners of the second match will face the Creed Brothers, while the first match’s winners will meet AAA World Tag Team Champions El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno del Mal, who also had a first-round bye.
