Drew McIntyre revealed new details about the brutal fall he suffered during his Hell in a Cell Match against Randy Orton in 2020, when he ended up biting his own tongue and had to improvise part of the end of the match.

In an interview on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast, he said that the two changed the final sequence of the match without even exchanging a word.

McIntyre had already told Sports Illustrated in 2024 that it was the worst fall of his career and that he took advantage of the bleeding during the match to dramatize the situation.

Now, McIntyre spoke again about the fall and explained what happened in detail.

“I believe it’s 20 foot the cell now. It was 10 ft up. I’m 6’7 with my boots on. When I looked back, I do not like heights. I went, ‘What have I done?’ And there’s nobody there and I fell off, hit the table, bit through my tongue. I had like a snake tongue afterwards and ironically I was wrestling, Randy. So the viper came down and Yeah, it hurt like heck without that…”

He also detailed how Orton reacted to the bleeding and how both handled the rest of the match.

“I knew I had blood going so I mixed the saliva with it to make it worse and started spitting up the blood like it was coming internally. Randy saw that and I started crawling. So instead of trying to grab me to get me around from the tables to the front door of the cell, he just stalked me the whole time. I crawled the whole time. We didn’t say a word to each other. I barely got in the ring. Tried one last effort. That wasn’t the plan.”

McIntyre highlighted Orton’s experience and again lamented what happened.

“But when you’re in with somebody like Randy and you know what you’re doing, you know your character, and you’ve get presented with a big moment, especially, you know, puts over brother, the big baby face, you know, to falling off a cell and an RKO. But it was a cool moment to be in sync like that and it worked into the finish, but I wish I could take that fall back cuz it was horrendous.”
