Former World Champion Crashes Mercedes Moné’s Title Celebration on AEW Dynamite

Thekla has made it clear that she has her sights set on the AEW Women’s World Championship. On Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, “The Toxic Spider” confronted Mercedes Moné during her championship celebration and demanded an opportunity to regain the title.

Taking place at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, the segment saw Moné revel in her victory at All In: London and address her climb to the top of the AEW women’s division.

The champion also took another jab at Willow Nightingale while displaying the physical toll of Sunday’s match, having suffered a broken nose before submitting her.

Thekla then crashed the celebration, initially claiming she was only there to toast the new champion. The tone shifted quickly. The former titleholder took aim at Moné, quipping that she does not work for “The CEO” and telling her to let her know when she is ready to hand the title back.

The confrontation ties directly into the title’s recent history. Thekla captured the championship on February 11 and held it for 165 days before losing to Nightingale at Redemption on July 26. Nightingale then dropped the title to Moné just over a month later.

AEW has yet to officially book a match between Thekla and Moné. The promotion’s next pay-per-view is All Out, set for September 26 at the NOW Arena in Chicago.
