Add as a preferred source on Google Joe Gacy made his return to the ring with a win on Friday night, July 24, exactly three months after leaving WWE.
Now working under the name Joseph Sawyer, the former Wyatt Sicks member defeated Rich Swann at Wrestling REVOLVER’s The Silence of the Slams, held at The Troubadour in Nashville, Tennessee.
The finish tied directly back to his WWE run. Sawyer hit the Sister Abigail — the move made famous by Bray Wyatt — to pin Swann.
It was Gacy’s first match since April 17, when the Wyatt Sicks lost to the MFTs in a Street Fight on Friday Night SmackDown. A week later, on April 24, he and the rest of the group were released by WWE.

The match also marked Sawyer’s return to the independent scene after nearly six years away. Before signing with WWE in 2020, he built much of his career in CZW and EVOLVE, winning the CZW World Heavyweight Championship three times.
Gacy and Swann already had history in the ring. In April 2018, Gacy won a Fatal 4-Way that also included Swann in the Best of the Best tournament. In a singles match in February 2019, though, Swann got the win.
The victory in Nashville officially opens the next chapter of Sawyer’s career outside WWE. His last big moment in WWE was a 196-day reign with the WWE Tag Team Championship alongside Dexter Lumis, which ended in January.
