FTR and the Motor City Machine Guns are set to meet in a best-of-five series, with the first match scheduled for Saturday at WrestleDream in Orlando, Florida.
The series was announced on Wednesday’s Dynamite, where Dax Harwood questioned why FTR is not first in line for a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Alex Shelley responded by proposing the best-of-five and suggesting the first match take place on the spot. Stokely Hathaway rejected that idea and picked WrestleDream instead.
Shelley also tied the challenge to the tag team title picture, arguing that wins over FTR would put the Motor City Machine Guns in position to claim a title shot. The Young Bucks are already set to defend the titles against Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight at WrestleDream.
The format holds special meaning for Shelley and Chris Sabin, who won a best-of-five series against Beer Money in TNA in 2010.
The Motor City Machine Guns lost the first two matches of that series but won the next three, taking it 3-2 and retaining the TNA World Tag Team Championship.
WrestleDream will be held at Addition Financial Arena.
