Kevin Owens Says Watching Sami Zayn Win the Undisputed WWE Title Was “Incredible”

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are back on opposite sides on WWE television, but the friendship the two have built over more than two decades still runs deeper than any storyline.

In a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, Owens reflected on Zayn capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship and said that watching his friend finally achieve the biggest dream of his career was an incredibly special moment.

“For him (Sami Zayn) to win that (WWE) title after working so hard for it for so long, and you know, there were times where we didn’t think it would happen for him, and to see him actually get to do it was so special.

The only thing is I wish I could have been there in person which obviously I wasn’t. But I made sure a few days later, I went to Raw just to be able to see him in person with the title, —

We both saw each other get married, have kids. We’ve been through our life together at this point. So to see him achieve the biggest dream he ever had, in wrestling, was incredible.”

Zayn’s title reign lasted just nine days. On the June 7 RAW, CM Punk defeated him to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Interestingly enough, the on-screen dynamic between Owens and Zayn has shifted entirely since then. Last week on SmackDown, Zayn cost Owens his title match against Punk. On yesterday’s show, Zayn attacked Owens once again and caused a no-contest in the Triple Threat with Gunther and Finn Bálor that was set to determine Punk’s next challenger.
