Kevin Owens has already started thinking about what he’ll do when the time comes to end his in-ring career in WWE. One possibility is staying with the company in a behind-the-scenes role.
In a recent interview with No Holds Barred from the Toronto Sun, Owens revealed that his time away due to the serious neck injury forced him to consider the possibility of never wrestling again. His interest in learning about other areas of WWE, however, already existed before the surgery.
It was in that context that Owens approached Triple H to understand how the current Chief Content Officer realized the time had come to prioritize his executive work.

The idea didn’t stay in the realm of possibilities. While still unable to wrestle, Owens worked as a guest coach on the third season of WWE LFG, helping Performance Center talents. Kali Armstrong publicly highlighted the Canadian’s direct involvement in training and match preparation.
Owens, however, made it clear that a permanent move behind the scenes isn’t close. At 42, he believes he still has several good years ahead in the ring.
The situation is quite different from what he faced a few months ago. Owens underwent neck surgery in July 2025 and hadn’t wrestled since that year’s Elimination Chamber. His recovery raised real doubts about a possible retirement.
Kevin Owens returned at SummerSlam on August 2, defeating Gunther, Finn Bálor, and Sami Zayn in a Fatal 4-Way Match that earned him an opportunity for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
In other words, the conversation with Triple H represents planning for the future, not an indication that Owens is preparing for another retirement.
