Key Detail Revealed About Roman Reigns’ Current Character in WWE

Roman Reigns will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta on the September 14 Monday Night RAW at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. WWE has already settled on a key detail for the build.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Reigns will work heel, with Penta as the babyface. It’s a natural fit given the match takes place in front of Penta’s home crowd in Mexico.

The direction isn’t exactly a sudden shift for Reigns. The World Heavyweight Champion has been listed internally as a heel in recent weeks and has shown signs of reverting to his old dominant The Bloodline character.

On this week’s RAW, for instance, Reigns blindsided LA Knight with a Superman Punch after a melee involving Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. Later in the night, the champion closed the show in a face-to-face with Penta after the luchador’s win over Rey Fenix.

Penta earned his title shot by winning a tournament to determine Reigns’ challenger in Mexico. He defeated Laredo Kid, La Parka, and in the finals, his own brother Rey Fenix, hitting a Mexican Destroyer for the win.

Reigns vs. Penta will be one of the marquee matches as Monday Night RAW returns to Mexico City for the first time in 15 years.
