[Spoilers] Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship Challenger Determined at WWE RAW Tapings

Penta earned the biggest opportunity of his WWE career on Friday. During the taping for next week’s RAW in Cleveland, Ohio, the luchador defeated Rey Fenix in the tournament final to become the next challenger for Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship.

The match between the brothers was taped at the Rocket Arena and will air on next Monday’s episode of RAW. WWE held an advance taping of the show before kicking off its upcoming stretch of international events.

Penta and Rey Fenix both advanced to the final after winning their respective semifinals on this week’s RAW. Fenix knocked off Dragon Lee with a Mexican Muscle Buster, while Penta put away La Parka with a Mexican Destroyer.

In the Cleveland final, Penta hit the Mexican Destroyer once again to defeat Rey Fenix and secure the pin.

The victory makes Penta the official next challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship. WWE had previously announced that the tournament winner would face Roman Reigns on the September 14 edition of RAW, live from Arena CDMX in Mexico City.

Friday’s final also marked the first televised one-on-one match between Penta and Rey Fenix in WWE. The brothers built much of their careers as a team under the Lucha Brothers banner, but they also share an extensive history as rivals.

Penta will now have the chance to capture his first world title in WWE in his home country, going up against Reigns, who won the World Heavyweight Championship by defeating CM Punk at WrestleMania 42.
