Maya World’s time away from the AEW ring is expected to last considerably longer than initially thought.
The former TBS Champion is now believed to be out for a few months, according to a new update from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
There is still no exact date for her return.
Fightful Select reported last week that World had undergone an undisclosed medical procedure and was temporarily out of action. At the time, the expectation within AEW was that she could return soon. That now appears unlikely.
World’s last match came on the Rebel Heart episode of Dynamite on September 9, when she, Hyan and Thunder Rosa lost a trios match to Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida and Persephone.
Her absence comes on the heels of the best run of her career. World won the TBS Championship by defeating Shida at AEW Redemption on July 26 and held the title for 35 days. Her reign ended at All In at Wembley Stadium when Persephone won the championship after interference from Baker.
AEW has already begun moving forward with the storyline without World. Persephone issued an open challenge for the TBS Championship at Saturday’s All Out, specifically barring World, Hyan and Thunder Rosa from answering it.
