Mercedes Moné is headed to the final of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. On Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite from Sugar Land, Texas, “The CEO” defeated Hazuki to secure her spot in the women’s tournament final.
The win came in a highly competitive match, especially given the recent history between the two. Hazuki had momentum after defeating Persephone on the June 6 edition of Collision, a result that ended with a brawl involving Moné and made the rivalry even more personal heading into the semifinal.
In the end, though, Moné survived. In the closing stretch, she locked in the Statement Maker, forcing Hazuki to tap out and ending the match.
With the result, Moné now awaits the winner of the second semifinal between Athena and Maya World, scheduled for this Saturday’s Collision. The winner will face Moné at Forbidden Door, which takes place June 28 in San Jose, California.
Moné entered the tournament after Willow Nightingale was pulled due to injury. In her return to AEW programming, she defeated Alex Windsor in the quarterfinals, also with the Statement Maker.
On the men’s side, the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament final is already set. Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland will also face each other at Forbidden Door.
