La Parka is the new AAA Latin American Champion.
At Sunday’s Ola de Calor, held at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas, he defeated Damian Priest, El Fiscal, and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. in a fatal four-way for the vacant championship.
AAA unveiled a new version of the Latin American Championship before the match. Priest, working his first match in an AAA ring, nearly picked up the win after planting El Fiscal with a chokeslam.
La Parka broke up the pin and followed with the Bone Breaker on El Fiscal, scoring the three count to capture the title. He is the first to hold the new version of the championship.
The AAA Latin American Championship had been vacant since the July 11 episode of AAA on FOX, where Rey Mysterio made the vacancy official after El Hijo del Vikingo suffered a knee injury requiring surgery.
Vikingo underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL on July 7. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, he is expected to be sidelined for approximately nine months.
The fatal four-way field was determined through a series of qualifying matches. Damian Priest was placed directly into the bout.
