Oba Femi appears on SmackDown in Toronto amid brewing tension with WWE Champion CM Punk.

Oba Femi Advertised for Upcoming WWE SmackDown

Oba Femi will make a rare WWE SmackDown appearance on August 21 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, less than three weeks after CM Punk publicly called him out at SummerSlam.

Scotiabank Arena confirmed Femi’s appearance and highlighted his SummerSlam victory over Brock Lesnar. Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk is also advertised for the show.

“Breaking News 🚨 @Obaofwwe is coming to Toronto fresh off his SummerSlam victory over Brock Lesnar! See ‘The Ruler’ live at @WWE #SmackDown on August 21.”

Punk took a shot at Femi during the SummerSlam post-show. After fans called for the matchup, Punk said he would like to face Femi, the King of the Ring winner.

“Listen, Oba Femi, without a doubt, is the future. That does not mean I am not the present. Be careful what you try to open underneath the Christmas tree. You may not like what you get. Oba is fantastic. My experience trumps his ability. Oba hasn’t picked which champion he wants to go after. If he wants to wallow in obscurity, go after Roman. If you want to live under the bright lights, come after the real champ.”

Femi fired back later that night, saying Punk’s comments did not intimidate him.

Kevin Owens is already officially Punk’s next challenger after winning a Fatal 4-Way Match at SummerSlam. Nothing points to an immediate match between Punk and Femi, but SmackDown in Toronto gives WWE its first concrete opportunity to move the rivalry forward.
