CM Punk left the first night of SummerSlam still Undisputed WWE Champion, and he didn’t wait long to name who he wants next: Oba Femi.
Punk retained over Cody Rhodes at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis after a run-in from Randy Orton, who hit Rhodes with an RKO in his first appearance since WrestleMania. Punk followed up with the GTS for the pin.
Femi then closed the show, beating Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell to take their trilogy two falls to one. Lesnar hugged Femi after the match, grabbed a mic and put him over as the future of WWE.
On the post-show, Punk took a shot at World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns while making his pitch for Femi:
“Oba hasn’t chosen what champion to go after. If he wants to wallow in obscurity go after Roman, if you wanna live under the bright lights, come after the real champ!”

There’s a built-in hook if WWE goes that way. Femi has said Punk was one of his favorites growing up and that he values the advice Punk gives him at the Performance Center.
Femi won this year’s King of the Ring and set aside the world title shot he earned to finish the Lesnar program. Hours after wrapping that up, Punk’s promo drops him right back into the title picture.
