Sheamus may be moving closer to a new chapter in his wrestling career, this time in AEW.
Sheamus, who ended his nearly 20-year run with WWE, has a strong supporter at AEW in Claudio Castagnoli, according to new reports.
As previously reported, several AEW veterans are pushing for the company to sign Sheamus. Castagnoli, formerly known as Cesaro, has said before that he would like to see Sheamus in Tony Khan’s promotion.
In an interview with the Daily Star, Castagnoli addressed the topic, saying that he stays in regular contact with Sheamus and that the two are still training together.
“I’ve stayed friends with him throughout. Of course, I would like to see my friends on a more regular basis.”
Sheamus and Castagnoli became a tag team in 2016, when Mick Foley decided to pair them up after a lengthy feud on Raw. Later known as The Bar, the duo became five-time tag team champions, winning the Raw Tag Team Championship four times and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship once.
Castagnoli is currently part of the Death Riders, the Jon Moxley-led faction whose members also include Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia and Marina Shafir.
Sheamus has officially been a free agent since October 1, when his WWE contract expired.
