Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook and Saquon Shugars are set to face off in a Triple Threat Match on the September 15 episode of WWE NXT. The winner will become the No. 1 contender to Grayson Waller’s NXT Championship.
The three earned their spots after defeating EK Prosper, Cruz Montana and Keanu Carver in a Six-Man Tag Team Match on this week’s NXT. The stipulation was that the members of the winning team would advance to the Triple Threat.
Waller’s held the NXT Championship since Heatwave on August 30. He defeated Tony D’Angelo, Cruz Montana and Zilla Fatu in a Fatal 4-Way Match.
The No. 1 contender picture took shape on the September 1 NXT, when Shugars, Montana, Prosper, Rook and D’Angelo interrupted Waller to stake their claim at the title. Carver then showed up and suggested the Six-Man Tag Team Match, with the winners advancing to a Triple Threat, a proposal General Manager Robert Stone accepted.
Two days later, Stone officially set D’Angelo, Rook and Shugars as one team, while Prosper, Montana and Carver were placed on the other side.
D’Angelo now has a chance to get back in the title picture after coming up short against Waller at Heatwave.
