Add as a preferred source on Google Brock Lesnar did not ask WWE to put his Hell in a Cell match with Oba Femi on last at night one of SummerSlam, according to a new update that pushes back on a report that made the rounds Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that those he spoke with coming out of the show were under the impression Lesnar had lobbied WWE to have the match close the card. That gained traction because CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes had been expected to headline the Saturday show until just days beforehand.
In a new update, WWE sources with direct knowledge of the creative plans denied that version of events. As those sources tell it, Lesnar vs. Femi was originally slated to open the show, not close it.
The running order was changed during the week based on the Hell in a Cell stipulation, Lesnar working in his home state and what the match meant to the Minnesota crowd, with the call reportedly coming from Paul Levesque.
The same sources said that, to the best of their knowledge, Lesnar had no involvement in the change.
