Rey Mysterio isn’t ruling out one more run at the top of WWE before his career is over.
Speaking on MuscleManMalcolm, the WWE Hall of Famer was asked whether he believes he can still get another shot at a world title. Mysterio made it clear he is ready if the opportunity comes.
“You never know. Never say never. I think I’ve proven myself to still be able to compete, no matter who they put in front of me. So I’m down to have another title run. Just put it in front of me and I’ll take advantage of it. Trust me.”
Mysterio has won three world titles in WWE. In 2006, he beat Kurt Angle and Randy Orton at WrestleMania 22 to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. Four years later, he won the title again at Fatal 4-Way.
His last world title reign came in 2011, when he beat The Miz on Monday Night RAW to win the WWE Championship. The reign ended that same night after a loss to John Cena. That was more than 15 years ago.
The comments also stand out given what Mysterio has going on right now. He still competes as an active wrestler, but he also serves as the General Manager of AAA. In that role, he recently organized the tournament that made Penta the No. 1 contender to Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship on RAW in Mexico City.
Mysterio was also in action on Friday, September 11, when he lost to Omos in the main event of night one of Triplemanía 34 in Las Vegas.
For now, another world title run is just a wish. Still, Mysterio has said he hasn’t set a retirement date and plans to keep going as long as he is enjoying his current stretch in and out of the ring.
