Ric Flair pushed back on comparisons between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay’s rivalry and his own historic series with Ricky Steamboat.
The comparisons picked up after AEW All In: London, held last Sunday at Wembley Stadium. Ospreay defeated Omega in the main event to capture the AEW World Championship for the first time.
On Wednesday, Flair took to social media and acknowledged both wrestlers’ talent but made clear he considers the comparison overblown.
“No one has more respect for Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay than me! But to compare them to Steamboat and I is like comparing the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean!
When they have a great match 300 times a year and 200-hour broadways, get back to me! Until then, there is no problem with being number two.
You are great young talent, but let’s get serious, kids! You should only hope that you have people talking about your matches 37 years later! WOOOOO!”

6:03 PM · Sep 2, 2026In 1989 alone, Flair and Steamboat wrestled their famous trilogy for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at Chi-Town Rumble, Clash of the Champions VI, and WrestleWar. Steamboat won the first two matches before Flair regained the title in the third.
Their history went back much further, though. Flair and Steamboat had been wrestling each other since the late 1970s, piling up lengthy bouts and even 60-minute draws.
