William Regal had high praise for Roman Reigns following his World Heavyweight Championship defense against Penta on the September 14 Monday Night RAW from Arena CDMX in Mexico City.
Reigns and Penta closed the show in a match that went roughly 22 minutes. Penta came dangerously close to pulling off the upset after connecting with the Penta Driver and the Mexican Destroyer, but he couldn’t put the champion away. Reigns caught him with a Superman Punch and followed up with a Spear to retain.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Regal said wrestlers at any level should study Reigns’ work closely if they want to improve how they connect with an audience.
Regal specifically pointed to Reigns’ facial expressions, reactions, and body movement throughout the match, drawing a line between traditional selling and the level Reigns performed at. He summed up the champion’s work in a single word:
“Masterful.”

The match also carried extra weight because of Penta’s road to the title shot. The former Intercontinental Champion had to fight through an eight-man tournament, beating Laredo Kid, La Parka, and his brother Rey Fenix in the final to earn the opportunity.
Monday’s show also marked WWE‘s first trip back to Mexico City in 15 years, which only added to the stakes with the hometown crowd firmly behind Penta.
Reigns already has his next challenger lined up. After the broadcast went off the air, LA Knight laid out the champion with a BFT. Adam Pearce has officially confirmed that the two will meet for the World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank on October 10 in New Orleans.
