Sami Zayn believes there is something between him and Kevin Owens that can’t be explained, despite all their years working together.
Zayn and Owens have built one of the longest-lasting relationships in pro wrestling and have gone back and forth as partners and rivals for more than two decades.
On Tuesday’s episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Zayn was asked why he and Owens have so much chemistry in and out of the ring. He said their connection does not come down to any known formula.
“Well, it’s the word you just said,” Zayn said. “It’s chemistry, and it’s magic because it’s like there’s no equation yet that we have figured out for what’s going to make two people gel that way in the ring and outside the ring and all that stuff. It’s just magic.”
The relationship between Zayn and Owens began long before they arrived in WWE. In a previous interview, Zayn said he met Owens in late 2002 and the two hit it off right away. Owens, though, said his first impression was different because he found Zayn annoying when he saw him in the crowd at a show.
In that same interview, Zayn said his strengths made up for Owens’ weaknesses and vice versa. He also said teaming with Owens always came naturally, despite their different personalities.
Zayn and Owens had one of their biggest moments as a team at WrestleMania 39 in April 2023. They defeated Jimmy and Jey Uso in the night one main event and won the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.
As previously reported, Owens also talked about their friendship in an interview with the Toronto Sun in August. He said he made a point of visiting Zayn after Zayn’s first Undisputed WWE Championship win, even though he didn’t take part in the celebration.
The chemistry between Zayn and Owens was recently put to the test again on WWE television, when the two found themselves at odds on several occasions.
