The situation involving Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo has become a mystery backstage in AEW, even though both remain officially under contract with the company.

According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, multiple sources said Melo requested her contractual release in 2025, but the request was denied. Alvarez added that not even people inside the company can explain Guevara’s current status.

“Nobody in AEW seems to know what’s up with Sammy Guevara right now. Multiple sources told me that Tay Melo requested a release last year but it was denied.

It’s expected we will know what’s up when everyone gets to TV tomorrow.”

AEW has not publicly confirmed the release request, its alleged denial, or any changes to the couple’s contracts. Guevara remains listed as a member of La Facción Ingobernable, while Melo appears in the women’s division as part of TayJay alongside Anna Jay.

Interestingly, the two made their most recent AEW television appearances on the same show. On the June 6 episode of Collision, Melo and Jay lost to Divine Dominion in a match for the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship. Guevara, meanwhile, teamed with RUSH and Dralístico in a loss to The Conglomeration.

Guevara also returned to the ring on June 26 at Arena México, where he and The Beast Mortos lost the ROH World Tag Team Championship to Místico and Máscara Dorada. The loss ended the team’s reign after 203 days.
