Add as a preferred source on Google Sheamus has spoken in detail for the first time about the end of his WWE run, breaking the silence he had kept since posting a farewell message to his former colleagues.
In a recent interview with Adam’s Apple, the Irishman was asked what led to the end of his nearly two-decade run with the company. Sheamus stopped short of revealing the backstage details behind the decision, but said the time away has let him make up for moments he’d missed with family and friends.
“Some circumstances came up, I can’t really talk about it obviously. But 19 years is a long time and a good crack. I left Ireland in 07, so I haven’t really had the luxury to go home, see my family and see my friends. The last couple weeks now, I’ve had a chance to kind of restructure that, get back and catch up on birthdays and missed opportunities. I’ve got a nephew and niece back home, Theo and Sophia. Love the kids, and I get to see them more now. They’re awesome. Six and four.”
The situation, though, comes with one key difference. According to Fightful Select, Sheamus turned down a restructured extension and was not released by WWE.
Even though he’s out of the company’s plans and listed in the Alumni section of WWE’s website, he remains under contract until October 1, when he could officially become a free agent.
Sheamus hasn’t wrestled since November 17, 2025, when he teamed with John Cena and Rey Mysterio to beat Dominik Mysterio, Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh on Monday Night RAW at Madison Square Garden. Shortly after, the former world champion underwent shoulder surgery and began his recovery.
During the same interview, Sheamus said he’s enjoying his training and feels like he’s in the best shape of his life.
