Add as a preferred source on Google Zelina Vega went in depth on her most recent WWE release. Vega and her husband, Aleister Black, were both let go on April 24 as part of WWE’s post-WrestleMania 42 cuts.
Speaking with Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture at WrestleCon in Minneapolis, Vega said she had a rough stretch after getting the call, but that she’d rather focus on what she got out of a nearly 10-year run with the company.
“I still have had a wonderful career with WWE, regardless of anything when it comes to that, and obviously I was released prior as well. But I still had almost a 10-year career there. The way I look at it is, yes, my husband and I both got released, but I was able to meet my husband and make him my husband because of WWE. I had that moment in Puerto Rico at Backlash because of WWE. I really try to spin things into a positive regardless.
It’s really hard because as I said a million times, I’m such a big advocate for mental health that not everything is going to be sunshine and rainbows and not every day is going to be a happy one. And I think I’ve dealt with the ups and the downs of it.
I remember too when I saw my phone vibrating I was like, oh, you don’t expect it, and then when it hits you you’re like, all right, what’s, and then you either go into panic mode or you go into a survival mode. And I think I have much more of a survival mode mentality, but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t come with the hard times of it. So I really try to hold on to the positive.
I have such an amazing fan base because of WWE and because of TNA. I can’t disregard that either, and Stardom. I’ve had a lot of people who have stuck with me along the way and it’s incredible. So I look at the people who were there from Jump Street.
Without the Paige movie, I don’t even know that you’d be looking at a person named Zelina Vega. So The Rock, obviously, there’s so many people that I have to thank along the way. So I try to really hold on to the positive part.”
The movie Vega referenced is “Fighting With My Family,” the Paige biopic in which she played AJ Lee. The Rock produced it and it hit theaters in 2019.
With her 90-day non-compete now up, Thea Trinidad is going by Xelina. She filed to trademark the name on July 20.
