Sheamus’ WWE exit still hasn’t been made official on a contractual level, even though the wrestler has already said his goodbyes and been removed from the active roster.

According to a new update from Fightful Select, the Celtic Warrior’s contract remains valid until Oct. 1, 2026. Only from that date can he officially be considered a free agent.

The update clears up the confusion that started in early July, when it was reported that Sheamus had turned down a restructured extension offer. He wasn’t released; he simply chose not to accept the new terms WWE presented him.

Even though he’s still under contract, Sheamus has already wrapped up his run with the company.

Since the deal is set to expire naturally, Sheamus isn’t expected to have to serve a 90-day non-compete clause. That means he could negotiate with and appear for another company immediately after Oct. 1.

Backstage, a high-ranking WWE figure reportedly pushed for Sheamus to stay in a conversation with TKO. A source close to the wrestler also believes he’d be willing to work for AEW, even if it starts out as a short-term deal.

Sheamus hasn’t wrestled since the November 17, 2025, episode of RAW, when he teamed with John Cena and Rey Mysterio to beat Dominik Mysterio, Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh. The following month, he underwent shoulder surgery.

For now, the future of the former WWE Champion remains unclear. Either way, any move outside WWE can’t happen before October.
