Sheamus could be preparing a surprise for AEW Full Gear, which will be held on Nov. 14. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, he asked this week to leave Big Event NY early, a fan convention where he will participate in autograph and photo sessions, saying that he will need to attend a wedding.
The detail draws attention mainly because of the schedule. Big Event NY’s official schedule lists activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET at Suffolk Credit Union Arena in Brentwood, New York. Sheamus is still advertised among the main attractions, using the name S. Farrelly, adopted after his departure from WWE.
In other words, if Sheamus stayed at the convention until it ended, he would have only three hours between the end of his commitment in New York and the announced time for the pay-per-view in Arizona. An early departure would open a larger window to travel to Phoenix.
Meltzer, however, did not present the situation as an agreed-upon AEW debut. When commenting on the request involving the wedding, the journalist left the possibility open.
“Might be nothing. Might be something.”
Sheamus is scheduled for Big Event NY on November 14, the same day as AEW Full Gear. However, in what could be a potential twist, Sheamus this past week asked if he could leave the event early, saying he had to attend a wedding. Might be nothing. Might be something. AEW’s interest in Sheamus had already been discussed behind the scenes. As previously reported, Fightful Select revealed that some experienced names in Tony Khan’s company support signing him, although there were no substantial talks between the parties in early October.
Sheamus is a free agent after the end of his contract with WWE, which allows a surprise debut in another company without needing to wait for a non-compete clause to expire.
The possibility of seeing him in AEW also brings to mind his partnership with Claudio Castagnoli, with whom he formed The Bar in WWE. In July, during an interview with the Daily Star, Claudio said that he remained friends with Sheamus but preferred to let him reveal his next steps himself.
