WWE‘s Sol Ruca said she would like to try a heel turn, but people close to her have told her it will probably never happen.
In an interview with KRON4’s The Finish with Kor & Tor, Ruca explained that her personality is the main reason for that view. She also talked about what it would take to bring out that side of her character.
“I have no idea [if there’s a world where she turns],” Ruca said. “I think I would love to be able to try that. I have been told in the past that I most likely will not be heel ever because of just how I am naturally. I am quite a bubbly and liked person.
So I don’t know. I feel like it’s gonna take a very special person to really get that side out of me, but I guess we’re just gonna have to wait and see.”
Ruca had already talked about how hard she finds it to play characters that are different from her real personality. During an appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast in March, she said she still had trouble showing anger in promos. Her background as an athlete got her used to staying serious, without needing to act out emotions on camera.
In the same conversation, McMahon offered a different perspective. She said she has always preferred working as a heel because she finds it easier to draw a negative reaction from fans than to win them over as a babyface.
In August, Ruca discussed her character work again on Busted Open Radio. She called it her biggest challenge since being called up to the main roster, mainly because of the responsibility of coming up with her own ideas in front of a bigger audience.
She also revealed on Pod Meets World that Paul Heyman was helping her improve her promos. Heyman encouraged her to step outside her comfort zone and explore different ways to portray her character.
As previously reported, Ruca said Triple H talked with her after she lost the Women’s Intercontinental Championship to Raquel Rodriguez in July, and he asked her to keep working as a babyface.
