Sami Zayn is expected to kick off tonight’s WWE SmackDown, airing live from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario.
Per TRNBCKL Gold, WWE’s preliminary script has Zayn slated to open tonight’s show. No details have emerged yet about what the segment will involve.
TRNBCKL itself has noted the information is part of a preliminary rundown that could still change before showtime.
The segment comes during a tough stretch for Zayn, who has been dealing with a legitimate broken hand and hasn’t wrestled since SummerSlam, where he competed in the Fatal 4-Way won by Kevin Owens that also included Gunther and Finn Bálor.
Last week, Zayn was booked for a match against Cody Rhodes with a future Undisputed WWE Championship opportunity on the line. The bout never took place, however, as Randy Orton attacked Rhodes before Zayn could make his entrance.
Also confirmed for tonight’s card, CM Punk will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens.
