WWE Reveals Opening Match for Tonight’s NXT

WWE has confirmed the opening match for tonight’s episode of NXT, airing Tuesday, August 18 from the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

Romeo Moreno, Tristan Angels, La Parka, and EK Prosper will square off in a Fatal 4-Way to determine the next challenger for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship. The winner earns a title shot against reigning champion Rey Fenix on the August 25 NXT.

The match was set up on last week’s show when AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio spoke with Robert Stone about finding a new challenger for Fenix. EK Prosper and La Parka were the first two names selected, with Moreno and Angels added later to round out the field.

Fenix has held the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship since May 30, when he defeated Laredo Kid at Noche de Los Grandes. Since capturing the title, he has defended it on multiple occasions, including bouts against Axiom, Nathan Frazer, and El Hijo del Vikingo.

Tonight’s NXT also features Lexis King putting the WWE Men’s Speed Championship on the line against Lucien Price, Thea Hail taking on Nattie, and additional matches. The show airs live at 8 PM ET/7 PM CT on The CW.
