Triple H said what WWE values most when evaluating potential new wrestlers. Even with the emphasis on physical fitness, he made it clear there’s something above all of it.
Speaking with KHON2 News while promoting WWE’s upcoming tryout in Hawaii, he said athleticism, determination and drive are important. The biggest factor, though, is still charisma.
“Well, you know, obviously the obvious things, the athleticism, the desire, that drive. But the biggest thing is charisma.”
According to Triple H, WWE is looking for people who naturally command attention and win over a crowd, especially those with larger-than-life personalities. He summed it up by saying that in pro wrestling, “charisma is king.”
The comments come ahead of a major tryout at Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu. The tryout will take place before the live events set for October 16 and 17, marking WWE’s first return to Hawaii since September 22, 2019. Recruiters, coaches and executives will be on hand to evaluate the participants.
This isn’t a new philosophy. Back in 2018, Triple H named charisma as the first thing WWE looks for in new talent, along with the ability to become a leader within the company.
More recently, WWE international scout Jim Smallman echoed the same idea. According to Smallman, there are plenty of great athletes and technical wrestlers on the independent scene, but the real difference-maker is the ability to connect with an audience right away.
