Penta opened Monday’s WWE Raw at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, by making it clear that his loss to Roman Reigns has not ended his pursuit of the World Heavyweight Championship. The former Intercontinental Champion went to the ring and asked for another title shot against the champion.
Penta acknowledged that Reigns was the better man in their match last week in Mexico City but said he is not finished with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Penta had actually tipped his hand hours before Raw went on the air. In an interview with the San Antonio Express-News, he said he still believes he can win the world title.
“But I want a rematch with him because I know something in my heart and my soul says I can win that title,” Penta told the newspaper.
The in-ring segment was cut short when Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh interrupted. Dominik told Penta that nobody cared about his goals and declared himself the “King of the Luchadores.” Penta fired back, saying Rey Mysterio is the only one who deserves that distinction.
The exchange quickly turned physical. Dominik and McDonagh jumped Penta, but he fought back and drove both Judgment Day members out of the ring.
Penta and Dominik Mysterio have a lengthy history. In March, Penta defeated Dominik Mysterio to win the Intercontinental Championship and beat him again in a title rematch a few weeks later.
Regardless of Penta’s request, Reigns already has a title defense on the books. The World Heavyweight Champion is set to face LA Knight at Money in the Bank on October 10 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
