Chad Gable and Rey Mysterio delivered one of the most praised matches on the August 17 edition of Monday Night RAW, which emanated from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
The Intercontinental Championship was on the line in what marked Gable’s first defense since capturing the title. After a sequence of reversals down the stretch, the champion reversed a Mysterio pin attempt into a cover of his own to retain.
New details have now surfaced regarding the production of the match.

10:20 AM · Aug 24, 2026According to Fightful Select, Michael Hayes and Bobby Roode were the producers assigned to Gable vs. Mysterio. The pair also produced the segment that closed the same episode of RAW, featuring Roman Reigns, The Usos, Jacob Fatu, Solo Sikoa, and LA Knight.
Roode’s behind-the-scenes involvement is particularly noteworthy given his history with Gable. The two teamed together in WWE and captured the RAW Tag Team Championship in December 2018 by defeating AOP and Drake Maverick.
Gable headed into the Mysterio match fresh off winning his first singles championship in WWE at SummerSlam on August 2, where he defeated Penta.
