Will Ospreay wants to face Adam Copeland in a match for the AEW World Championship in 2027. The challenge came right after last Saturday’s WrestleDream. Ospreay was giving an interview to Renee Paquette backstage when Copeland appeared to speak to him.
Ospreay took the opportunity to comment on Copeland’s retirement announcement, then inviting him to a match.
“Is 2027 it? Save the date for me.”
The idea is not something new. In an interview with 1010XL before the pay-per-view, Ospreay said that he grew up watching Copeland wrestle and that he received support from him when he needed neck surgery. In the same conversation, he said that facing him one-on-one before retirement was one of his goals.
Copeland and Ospreay took part in the Clockwork Carnage Match, which featured eight wrestlers and the AEW World Championship on the line. Ospreay retained the title by hitting Copeland himself with a Hidden Blade to retain the title.
Copeland announced on the Oct. 14 episode of Dynamite that 2027 will be his last year in wrestling, but that he is still looking to win the AEW World Title. Ospreay’s challenge could give him that chance.
