Rey Mysterio could end his in-ring career with WWE in 2027, and the company is reportedly already starting to discuss ideas for his farewell.
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, a source said there have been internal discussions about Rey’s possible retirement. The company is also reportedly weighing how to present it to fans.
The talk ties back to comments Rey himself made in February 2025. In an interview with Adrian Hernandez of Unlikely, he said he would like to announce his final match in advance to give the fans who followed his career a chance to see him one last time.
“I would love to make an announcement,” Rey said.
The idea of an announced farewell fits with what WWE is reportedly discussing. Rey has shown interest in following the example of John Cena, who went on a retirement tour in 2025.
But as previously reported, Rey said in September he wasn’t planning to set a specific age for his retirement. He said he was enjoying his appearances on Raw and his work as AAA’s general manager.
Dominik Mysterio could play a key role in Rey’s final run.
During a July appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Dominik said he considers it his right to retire his father. He even suggested holding the retirement match at Auditorio Municipal Fausto Gutiérrez Moreno in Tijuana, Mexico.
In the same interview, Dominik said he was not aware of any internal talks about the match. For that reason, his wish to face Rey in a farewell match shouldn’t be mistaken for a WWE plan at this point.
