WWE has announced comedian and social media star Matt Mathews as a special guest for the July 9 RAW at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.
Mathews is a natural pick for the Birmingham show. The comedian was born and raised in the city and built much of his following through videos about life on his Alabama farm. He currently boasts more than 15 million followers and over one billion views across social media.
This won’t be Mathews’ first time on WWE programming, however.
In June, he appeared on NXT as one of the judges for the inaugural Mr. NXT contest alongside EVOLVE Champion Aaron Rourke and Kit Wilson. Shiloh Hill and Tristan Angels competed in the event, which featured categories including attire, talent, and speech.
Weeks later, on June 23, Mathews returned to NXT and stood in the corner of Hank Walker and Tank Ledger for their tag match against Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo and Uriah Connors. The comedian got involved in the action by creating a distraction against BirthRight, helping Hank & Tank pick up the win.
The Legacy Arena is also advertising CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Penta, Liv Morgan, Sol Ruca, The Usos, Oba Femi, Gunther, IYO SKY, and Jacob Fatu for the Birmingham RAW.
Whether Mathews will once again get physically involved in a storyline or simply serve as a special guest on the show remains to be seen.
