WWE filed a trademark application for “The Mike” on Friday, per Fightful — a move that appears directly tied to the running Pat McAfee Show bit between The Miz and Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski.
Fightful describes the filing as likely intended for The Miz. The application covers the usual range of entertainment services WWE locks down for talent-related marks: live professional wrestling performances, TV and internet broadcasts, sports entertainment news and information, fan club services, and online newsletters and blogs.
The whole thing stems from Misiorowski picking up “The Miz” as a legitimate nickname in baseball. MLB has been using it regularly in its official coverage all season, and McAfee ran with the overlap. On the July 27 episode of his show, McAfee billed Mike Mizanin as “The Mike” in the episode title while presenting Misiorowski as “The Miz.”
It came to a head on Friday when McAfee brought both men on together to hash out who gets to keep the name. McAfee called the wrestler “The Mike” throughout the segment, and Mizanin fired back on X afterward:
“I am The Miz! The Mike will NOT become a thing!!!!”
