WWE made a significant last-minute change to tonight’s episode of NXT after Layla Diggs was injured during a recent live event.

Diggs was confirmed to challenge Zaria for the NXT Women’s North American Championship, but Robert Stone announced before the show that she had not been medically cleared and will be replaced by a name that has not yet been revealed.

WWE released the following update:

“After Layla Diggs suffered an injury over the weekend, NXT General Manager Robert Stone announced that he would search for a replacement to challenge NXT Women’s North American Champion Zaria.

Who will Stone find to challenge Zaria?”

The injury occurred on Saturday, July 11, during a non-televised event in Sebring, Florida. Interestingly, Diggs had faced Zaria for the title that same night and came up short. The extent of the injury and her recovery timeline have not been revealed at this time.

Layla earned the title opportunity on the most recent episode of NXT, defeating Izzi Dame, Lizzy Rain and Thea Hail in a Fatal 4-Way Match.

Zaria won the NXT Women’s North American Championship on June 9 by defeating Tatum Paxley. Since then, the Australian has also retained the title against the former champion at Great American Bash.
