Maxxine Dupri has lost momentum in WWE’s creative plans after a stretch where the company appeared willing to position her as one of the new stars of the women’s division.

On the latest episode of Monday Night RAW, Dupri lost to Raquel Rodriguez in a match to determine the next challenger for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship. The loss stood out not only because of the result, but also because of how Dupri was presented during the show.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE had been strongly behind Maxxine because the company saw major star potential in her, especially due to her look and television presence. However, the crowd reaction did not match that expectation.

“That’s why we haven’t seen Maxxine as a wrestler. They thought she was a big star because of her looks, and they were giving her the big push, but when she went out, the people didn’t react.”

Meltzer also noted that Maxxine’s situation is different from names already established at the top of the card. According to him, when a midcard or lower-card talent does not get a reaction, WWE tends to pull back quickly.

“But if you’re in the middle or low, and they don’t react to you, man, it’s f***** for you. That’s what basically hurt her career — the people didn’t react to her matches.”

Her reduced role also comes during a confusing stretch for her character. On this week’s Raw, Maxxine also appeared in a segment with Chad Gable, Otis, Akira Tozawa, and Austin Theory, leaving clearly shaken after her loss to Raquel.

Maxxine previously had notable moments on WWE programming, including a rivalry involving Becky Lynch, Natalya, and the Women’s Intercontinental Championship earlier this year.
