Big Cass may already have lost ground in WWE‘s plans for him as a singles wrestler, less than two months after his return to the company.
Cass lost to Dragon Lee on Monday’s RAW in Milwaukee after Lee caught him off guard with a sunset flip. It was the second straight loss on television for Cass. Je’Von Evans also pinned him on September 14 in a Triple Threat qualifying match for the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
Dave Meltzer had high praise for the match against Lee on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio but said the result could signal a major change in WWE’s plans for Cass.
Meltzer said the match was by far the best Cass has had since arriving in WWE.
“Unfortunately the end result also tells you that… they would never let Cass, if they had plans for him, lose to Dragon Lee. That is not in their MO at all, but he did, so y’know. I think Cass may need Enzo because they’ve given up on him as a single, which is a lot quicker than I thought they would.”
Meltzer’s assessment, however, does not mean WWE has internally confirmed an end to its plans for Cass as a singles wrestler.
Cass made his WWE return on the August 3 episode of RAW after more than eight years away, attacking Evans. Three weeks later, he faced Evans in his first match back and won with a big boot.
The feud with Lee has also been building since August. On the August 10 episode of RAW, Cass attacked Lee after a match and took out Evans, who tried to make the save.
