Seth Rollins says he is becoming comfortable with a legacy separate from Roman Reigns.
On Monday’s Busted Open Podcast, Rollins said the comparison drove him for years.
“I think it’s hard for me to get to a place where I don’t compare myself to what Roman has accomplished. Obviously we know this business in and out and we know that being a big star in this industry is more than just what happens in between the ropes, what happens on the canvas. And so some of it’s out of my control, but having that chip on my shoulder and having something to push for is the thing that has always driven me. In storyline and not in storyline it’s always been the thing that keeps me moving forward, that keeps me wanting to do something bigger, better, to create memorable moments and memorable emotions for our audience in the hopes that someday I can be in that echelon, and so it’s hard for me to just let it go.
“But I do think on the flip side of that as well, I’m getting to a point in my career where I am starting to be satisfied and okay with what my legacy is separate from Roman Reigns. And I alluded to that in a couple of promos over the last few weeks with Roman where I said, I don’t want to be you. And I finally figured that out. We’re not running the same race. And I don’t know why I spent so long chasing that aspect of things, but I said it was a thing that drove me.
“But at 40, I’ve been in business for over 20 years. I start to look at what my legacy is and what it could be, and I’m starting to be okay with where I’m at and what it means for Seth Rollins to be a WWE superstar. So, I think it’s tough. It really is a balancing act, I’ll be honest with you, but I am getting to a better place with it.”
The two debuted together in The Shield in 2012. Rollins later beat Reigns for the WWE title in 2016 and became the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion in 2023. They meet for Reigns’ title at SummerSlam, though Rollins now says his legacy no longer depends on being measured against Roman.
