Add as a preferred source on Google Seth Rollins says Gunther vs. Nick Aldis is the WWE SummerSlam match he is most curious to see because nobody knows what Aldis can still deliver after nearly three years away from the ring.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Rollins said Aldis’ first match inside a WWE ring carries a different kind of intrigue from the rest of the card.
“I think anytime anybody’s coming off of a long hiatus and has never really laced up the boots inside a WWE ring, there’s a ton of intrigue. So actually, the Gunther/Aldis match is one that kind of has my attention.”
Aldis has not wrestled since an independent appearance in October 2023. His last televised match was a loss to Eric Young at an Impact Wrestling taping on July 16, 2023. He joined WWE later that year and became the SmackDown General Manager without competing for the company.
“I think there’s the mystery of what does Nick Aldis have in the tank.”
“We see Aldis in the shirt every week on Friday. He looks fantastic. He looks full, the chest, he looks great. And he’s not even 40 years old. He’s still younger than I am actually, which shocked me. I didn’t know that.”
The match came together after Aldis pulled the referee out of the ring and struck Gunther with the WWE Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Triple H officially announced their match the following day at the SummerSlam Kickoff, and Aldis later agreed to step away from his SmackDown GM duties to compete.
“Let’s see what he’s got. It’s really his WWE debut and it’s on a massive stage. I’m really looking forward to seeing that.”
Gunther vs. Aldis is scheduled for the first night of SummerSlam on Saturday, August 1.
